Thanksgiving

At first I thought that Americans have holidays (so nicely spread through the calendar) so that they have something to talk about. Two weeks before Thanksgiving, the only subject of all office small-talks was where and with whom people would spend Thanksgiving. -Are you driving/flying home? Are your parents coming? Is your sister bringing her children? And what are YOU doing for Thanksgiving? Oh that's great! Are you going to eat a lot? ha-ha... and finally -Have a great Thanksgiving, good Turkey, safe trip, fun weekend - see you on Monday!

And Mike and I loaded on a bus to DC. When we came to his house in Bethesda, all the formality suddenly disappeared. I stopped hating Thanksgiving. I absolutely loved that warm gathering of people, who thanked the most simple and the most important thing in their lives: the ability to get together like this - talk about insignificant things, drink some wine, have some food and be happy.

Three days after Thursday were perfect. We slept late, went to the movie theatre all together (Mike, his parents, brother and I), went to a restaurant ones, for other meals we had leftovers of Turkey and stuffing, went shopping, played Risk, watched TV and guys played a lot of their old computer games. I had the best sleep for months. One of the reasons is that it is so quiet there. Especially compared to New York. We didn't want to leave so badly... But we are going to Bethesda again in less then 4 weeks for Christmas!

5pm

I like when it’s 5 o’clock – it means one more hour and I go home. During this last hour I usually have a lot of stuff to do before closing the office, so this time goes very fast.

Mike is working hard, and worrying a lot about his job. He started last Thursday and it does seem hard. But I am sure he just needs some time to get used to it. Tomorrow morning he has a meeting with everyone from his team, so he is stressed.

My Russian class yesterday went very nicely despite the fact that no one did their homework. Except one guy. He is the best student in my class, even though his Russian is not as advanced as others. Paradox. We talked about sports, next time I think we should talk about food – because Thanksgiving is coming and it means a huge fest. I am very excited about it. Last year, it was such a great trip, and I enjoyed it so much in Mike’s family.

I have to film this speaker tonight at I.House, but I am completely falling asleep :) I woke up at 6 again to go to the gym! We’ll see how it will work out tonight.

Monday

My boss has bad mood each morning. She would find the only thing I didn’t do and tell me that next time I’d better do it. And the funny thing is that I know that she will be the sweetest person right after 11 a.m.

I managed not to spoil my mood, while she was telling me that I don’t have enough granola bars displayed in the basket with breakfast snacks this morning. Actually, I had a great morning. I woke up at 6 (!) and went to the gym. It was something :) but I am very proud of myself now. The reason for my extreme behavior is that I want to loose couple pounds before Thanksgiving (when Mike and I are going to DC). My goal is to try to go to the gym every morning before Thanksgiving (except Friday – I have Pub Thursday night). I hope I will manage to do it.

My weekend was great. I had lots of sleep, on Saturday I went to buy a bike. I love it! I was biking all day – the weather was gorgeous. Sunday was a gray rainy day – so I stayed at home. I talked to my family on the phone. We talked a lot about New Year party and my visit. I am so excited about it. I told them to buy me tickets on the 7th of January and back for the 7th of July. 6 months difference… But there is a slight chance that dad will come to visit me in March. I hope so much it will work out. I also tried to do some work for my videography fellowship in I.House – but I was missing one cable and I couldn’t connect the camera to the computer. So, I didn’t do anything. It reminds me – I should e-mail Katie and tell her that I need this cable. After work, I will go home, we will have dinner at the caf and I will teach my weekly Russian class. I hope my students will do their homework. That is my Monday!

work

I didn't tell about my job in Penny Lane yet. It's a great place where I spend at least 9 hours every work day. One small company in Chelsea, of which existence I'd never heard before September 2006, now occupies most of my lifetime. And the time here in Penny Lane is calm and quiet. Everyday everything is more or less the same: come here at 8:45, lunch at 1, leave at 6. Sometimes I stay later, sometimes I came earlier, but the idea is the same, people are the same and I am more or less happy about it. It is good for now.
Mike is waiting to start working with Columbia University, and this waiting is a like a torture for both of us. Sometimes I loose patience, like I did yesterday. But there is nothing that he can do about it. I just need to wait for him to start, so we can move on...

Relative...

Yesterday I met my cousin. First of all, I didn't know I have cousins, and second, I didn't know that I have one in New York. But apparently I do.

She lives in New York more than 10 years already and she is a very distant relative of mine - we have one great-great-grandfather. She works in a bank and lives in Midtown Manhattan. We spent about three hours talking about our grandmothers, and how it turned out that we are sitting here in Thai restaurant in New York City... Our great-great-grandfather would never imagine it, I bet.
